Would you like to study abroad? No problem! At the HSPV you have the opportunity to complete part of your studies as a government inspector abroad at a partner university of the HSPV NRW.

Instead of a project during your studies, you can also choose to study abroad in agreement with the hiring authority. This makes it possible to study abroad for up to three months.
You can also complete an internship abroad in addition to the project phases; this is also possible for a period of up to 3 months in consultation with your hiring authority.

Here you will find an overview of the universities at which you can complete your studies abroad.

Sports funding

Are you a top athlete? Then you may be eligible for sports funding. The state of NRW supports top athletes in the police force and offers you professional training as well as training and competition-oriented opportunities. The coordination and counseling of top athletes begins with the submission of your application. The aim is to enable training and service in harmony with training and competition.

When are you eligible for a sports sponsorship?

Your sport should be an Olympic, Paralympic or Deaflympic discipline in the year you are employed by the NRW police. In addition, you must be a member of an Olympic squad (OK), perspective squad (PK), supplementary squad (EK) (alternatively team sports squad (TK) for team sports) or junior squad (NK 1 and NK 2). In justified exceptional cases, athletes who are members of a national squad or members of a corresponding selection team or another sport may also be considered.

Which areas are excluded from sports funding?

Referees, judges, trainers and official activities are excluded from sports funding.

Your part-time studies

Part-time theoretical study sections

As a candidate government inspector, you will also have the opportunity to study part-time in the future. Part-time studies can be completed in a standard study period of 4 years and are primarily designed for students with children or dependents in need of care as well as for severely disabled students. However, other applicants also have the opportunity to study part-time after submitting an appropriate application and receiving approval from the recruitment authorities.

The part-time courses take place in Cologne and Dortmund and on a maximum of three days a week, between 08:45 and 09:45 and 15:00. In the first and fourth study phases, your courses can be spread over four days. This allows you greater flexibility and a better balance between your studies and your private life. One day a week is generally free of lectures.

Depending on the study section, there are between 15 and 23 course hours per week. These generally take place on two days in attendance and on one day in the online teaching. In the first and fourth study sections, two online days are planned as an exception, making a total of four course days.

Practical phases during the part-time degree program

During your practical phases, you will work 30 hours a week at your hiring authority. The performance records in the practical phases of the part-time course are equivalent to those of a full-time course.

Classroom and online teaching for more flexibility

So-called digital weeks will take place for optimal exam preparation. During these weeks, there will be a complete switch from classroom teaching to online teaching to prepare for the exams to online teaching in order to reduce your travel time and ensure optimal exam preparation.

In order to guarantee your time flexibility in part-time study, online teaching focuses not only on synchronous, but above all on asynchronous online teaching. This means that the courses are held online and enable you to deal with the content and tasks of the course regardless of time and place and to take your individual learning behavior into account.
