Police doctors are experts in the interaction between the police profession and health. Their varied daily routine brings them into contact with all facets of police work as well as challenges from all medical specialties.

The main areas of work of police doctors include:

• Providing occupational medical care for all police employees, including occupational health screening
• Extended curative measures as part of the company medical consultation hours
• Carrying out medical examinations for police officers
• General and emergency medical care during major police operations
• Participation in the granting of free medical care benefits

The police doctors are each responsible for running a fully equipped police medical service with qualified medical staff.

What makes you stand out

To work as a police doctor in the NRW police force, you need to have completed specialized medical training in an area of immediate patient care. Knowledge of emergency medicine is also desirable.

What you can expect with us

Emergency paramedics provide comprehensive emergency medical care for the emergency services during major police operations. This also includes preparing for such operations, including making arrangements with the civilian emergency services. Depending on the operational situation, support is provided in teams with or without police medical support. Outside of operations, emergency paramedics carry out first aid training for police officers. They also contribute their medical expertise as case officers to the wide range of tasks in the police medical services.

You have successfully completed vocational training as an emergency paramedic. In addition, you should be able to work independently, have organizational and planning skills, be able to work in a team, communicate, cooperate and work under pressure. A teaching qualification in the field of first aid is also welcome.

What you can expect with us

First aid course leaders are responsible for organizing first aid training courses with authorities and, if necessary, external parties. They conduct the courses under their own responsibility, adapt the lessons to specific target groups (e.g. patrol officers, service dog handlers, operational first aiders, operational trainers) and work together with the operational trainers of the local training to interlink medical and practical training content with operational tactical elements.

You have successfully completed vocational training as an emergency paramedic or paramedic. A teaching qualification in first aid is also required. In addition, you should be able to work independently, be able to organize and plan, work in a team, communicate, cooperate and work under pressure.

Medical assistants are involved in the diverse tasks of the police medical services. They coordinate consultation hours, carry out technical examinations and provide support during medical examinations. As clerks, they work independently on matters from the various fields of activity.

Pharmaceutical technical assistants can work in the central identification service in a criminal investigation department. Here they carry out identification procedures and take or process saliva samples for inclusion in the DNA analysis file.
